This photograph is for my project of personal comment and is the theme of fitness. For my exam I photographed fitness in the studio and felt that my shoot went very well therefore I decided to do a shoot for my personal comment project on location. This photograph shows a typical stretch you do before participating or competing for any sport. This photograph shows the personal comment on how exercising will give you a healthy figure that isn't unrealistic to society. I edited this photograph as selective colour because of my models bright shoes and sport top I found that this would look very vibrant to look at. I also made the background black and white to make my model be the main focus of the photograph. This photograph was framed and taken very well and I feel that it was a successful photograph.

This photograph is also for my project of personal comment and shows the personal comment of how exercising keeps you thinking positive and looking healthy. This photograph was captured very well as it shows my model leaping off the ground doing a typical drill that you do to warm up for a sport. I feel that the colours are very affective in this photograph because they are very bright and vibrant and stand out because of this. I feel that the use of the formal element of depth in this photograph makes this photograph even more interesting to look at and creates a simple drill to be a eye catching photograph. I really editing this photograph however to improve this photograph I could of taken it with more of an interesting location behind her. However I still feel this is a very well captured photograph.






If I would go back and add to this shoot I would of taken more photographs of different stretches and drills to give myself more of a variety of photographs to choose from. I would also photograph different stretches in other locations.

This photograph was taken for my project for personal comment this is because it shows the growth and change of fashion for individual styles. This style that I styled and photographed was the iconic style of the 80's. I chose to have a plain white back drop to make the luminous pink tight leggings and bright blue leg warmers stand out. I held the camera portrait to capture Demi's full body length in to show her chunky black heels as well. I chose this photograph to edit because I like the way her side pony tail curls round her face and her body position shows the 80's outfit off very well. I edited this photograph using the crop tool, curves and levels to adjust the brightness. If I could improve this photograph I would of taken this photograph from higher up for example standing on a
bench to get the same eye level as Demi.

This photograph was taken for my project of personal comment and is the theme of fashion. This photograph shows the personal comment on how fashion has hugely transformed to bright colours and tight leggings from the 70's which was a very casual and simple look. I like how my model is sitting down this is photograph as it gives the style a very cute and sporty look to it. The bright colours stand out from the basic white background which I planned so that they style was the main focus of this photograph. This photograph is very easy to edit because the sharpness of the photograph didn't need any major adjustments to the curves and levels. To improve this photograph I would of taken this photograph eye level to make it look more professional.

To improve this shoots I would take more photographs and get my model to express more fun and happy expressions to show how the 80's was a very fun era.

This photograph was taken for my unit 2 project of personal comment. This photograph was part of the 4 shoots showing how each era of fashion has grown and changed. This photograph shows the uniqueness of the 70's. This photograph shows the fashion statement of the 'mom jeans' this was something that was very popular in the 70's and is becoming popular again. I really like how sharp and natural this photograph looks because of the lighting. I also like how her hair is falling this allows the style to be the main focus as its not in the way of it. This photograph shows the technique of repetition and this was done by changing the image size and creating a new canvas to drag them onto. I think that this is very affective as it is more interesting to look at because it shows double of the one photograph.

This photograph was also for my project personal comment unit2. This photograph is much different to the one above as its a sitting down shot. I really like how their is a distance between the model and the camera and how it has been taken from a high angle. This gives the photograph a different way of consuming the style of the 70's. I also like how this photograph is very simple and plain however it shows fashion at its best in the 70's. To improve this photograph I would of taken this from a higher angle or positioned my model more into the centre.

If I would go back to this studio shoot I would take more photographs as I didn't take as much as wanted to. However the ones I did came out very well.

This photograph was taken for my personal comment project for unit 2. The idea for this photograph was to show the personal comment on how fashion has grown and changed through the different era's. This era in this specific photograph is the 60's and has been shown through hair style and clothing. I took this photograph in the format of portrait to make sure that the whole style was shown. Also the position I directed my model to stand is best taken in portrait. Even though the backdrop was white I like how the lighting gave it a grey old effect because that's how photographs were presented in the 60's. To enhance the red lipstick I used the pain brush and changed the opacity to make it realistic this is a skill I learnt from my first to project to now. I feel that this photograph is taken very well and captures the style very well through the colours and framing.

This photograph is for my personal comment project for unit 2. This photograph shows the personal comment of fashion. This is because this photograph represents the fashion of the 60's and how unique the era was. This photograph was taken in the studio and had a white backdrop however by changing the hue and saturation and enhancing her red lipstick made this photograph look like it was taken in the 60's. I really like how I captured this photograph sitting down with her whole body framed. This allows the 60's outfit displayed in the best way. I also like how elegant and sophisticated my model looks. This is how the style was described as in the 60's which makes this photograph a success.

If I would go back to this studio shoots I would of used a grey back drop to give a different feel to the photographs. I would also photograph another outfit with a coloured top and plain skirt to show different styles in the 60's.

Overall Evaluation

At the beginning of this project I got given the page of the possible questions that I could choose to do my second unit on. The choices were: story telling, freezing motion, reflections, the natural world and personal comment. To decide what question to pick I created a mind map for each question brain storming the ideas for each one and possible shoots that I could do for my project. After I had completed this I chose the question 'Personal comment' this was because I had the most ideas and planned shoots out of all the questions. As well as having further explanations for each idea. Once I had fully decided that I'm doing personal comment to get more of an idea on my question I chose. I completed a definition page and image bank to explore further into the project of personal comment by annotating photographs that reflect personal comment to get some inspiration for my own work. Also by defining the word to get a better understanding before I shot my own photographs. I also completed a research log with photographers who have been and are in the photography industry to comment on their work and to make sure my photographs are obvious to the consumers what my message is by using elements that they have used for example black and white to show a negative comment on domestic abuse. Also for part of my research I discussed each topic I am going to shoot for my overall project of personal comment. This was very beneficial as it made me more organised and well planned for when I came to shooting because I had further ideas on the emotions to show, the locations and the props needed to show my personal comment on each topic. Lastly to make sure that my photographs weren't taken with no inspiration I anaylsed 5 photographers of my own choice that I thought would have the most impact on my own project the photographers I picked were: Banksy who is an artist, Vasil Germanov, Ann Leb, Justin Grant and Andrew Stawicki. These all relate to my project of personal comment and hugely influenced me with my own work as I used their ideas for particular photographs that appealed to me however adding my own ideas to individualise my work.

My first shoot that I did was a poverty shoot which was taken in the studio. The props I used were a table to allow my model to sit down with her body in tight to show her fear of being in poverty. As well as taking close ups to see the weakness in her eyes.  I also used the prop of a blanket in my photographs to show her being cold and needing warmth as poverty is on the streets. To improve these photograph's I could of taken these photographs on location in streets around well known places to show more of a personal comment on the negative topic of poverty. In my photographs the lighting wasn't showing clearly on the camera therefore the photographs came out very dark and not sharp enough. This made my photographs not as affective as I wanted them to be and it was a struggle to edit them. 

I took two shoots for the theme of domestic abuse for my personal comment project and was a topic that I had lots of ideas for. The lighting I used was the spot light and a black back drop for both shoots this was chosen because it was a very sinister and haunting light and only shone on the face of my model making the cuts,bruises and swollen injuries stand out in the editing process. This made my personal comment of how domestic abuse damaged not just the mental side of a female but also her physical appearance. The photographs I chose to edit were edited very graphic and were very obvious that they were domestic abuse. The tools I used to create the injuries on my model were the burn and dodge tool to start as a base for the black eyes and swollen lips. After this I then added colour using the paint tool and blurring the colour as well as changing the opacity to show a hint of blood and purple in the bruises to make it look as realistic as possible. My second shoot for domestic abuse was edited the same however I used signs in the photographs to express what females are un able to say because of fear.

My fashion shoots were organised and planned to make sure my photographs looked as close to the photography fashion industry as possible .The model I used was Demi Norris who was the model for each fashion era I captured. My idea for fashion photography was to show the change and individuality of the following 60's 70's 80's and 90's fashion. The first two era's I had shot was 80's and 90's. The 80's I researched and discovered that the fashion was very bright and vibrant with mainly tight leggings  and luminous leg warmers to give a fitness look. Therefore I used each of these items of clothing in my photographs. As well as styling my models hair in a high side pony tail curled with a bright green scrunchy and black chunky wedges. In order to know how to position my model I had to do further research on fashion photographers to see how the models are standing and different positions to do. This research was very helpful for all my fashion shoots this is because it made my photo shoots much easier and flow better as I knew how to direct my model while giving her the confidence to do each position. These photographs were taken using a white background to allow all the focus to be on the clothing and style for each era. The next shoot I did immediately following this was the 90's. The style for this was a tight off the shoulder black top with washed out denim shorts and a checkered shirt tied around her waist with ankle boots. This style was very popular and an edgy look. Which is why I directed my model to stand in very strong positions and express a very mysterious expressions. The other two era's which are the 60's and 70's were shot on a different day. Both these studio shoots also went very well. The fashion for the 60's was a very classy look which involved mainly head shots and were edited using black and white or hue and saturation to give the photographs a vintage look to them. The last era of fashion I shot was the 70's this was a very casual shoot with the main fashion item of baggy 'mom' jeans this shoot I found the hardest because it didn't have any personality to the clothing therefore I struggled with the positions the model should stand in. However the photographs I took were very obvious that it was the 70's which was my aim of the shoot.   

I captured two nature shoots and the aim of the first shoot was to show the difference between the beauty of nature and nature dying. The photo joiner I created on Adobe elements showed the personal comment on how nature has a life cycle and this was shown through half of the photo joiner being the beauty of nature and the other half the opposite of this. To make a photo joiner I took a huge amount of photographs of half of each flower bush. Then I changed the image size to all of them to make them smaller and finally dragged them to a new canvas to form a whole picture. This shoot was taken on location and the sun was shining for both nature shoots which made my photographs outcome good. The second nature shoot I did was a very spontaneous one and anything I saw that I thought would make a good photographs I took. The photographs from this shoots are my favourite I've taken. This is because of the detail of the flowers shown in the photographs and how vibrant the colours are.

Another location shoot I did was a combination of fitness and steroetpyes. In this shoot once my photographs were taken I found that my stereotype photographs were much more affective and best fit my project of personal comment. Therefore I decided to edit them and use them as my final outcome for this specific shoot. The stereotype I expressed in this shoot was 'Teenagers' I found this easy to understand as I am a teenager myself. I used the location of a graffiti wall and the main stereotype for teenagers which is a 'Hoodie'. These photographs were edited in a very creative way and stood out a the colours on the graffiti wall were very bright. I feel that these photographs showed my personal comment very well and were inspired by the unknown artist Banksy. 

My last shoot was a fairy tale shoot. The message I wanted these photographs to show was the personal comment on how there are two sides to a fairy tale. The first being very innocent, beautiful and postive. The other side being very dark and sinister. To show this I used a puffy dress which was similar to a alice in wonderland dress. For the good side of fairy tales I used bright lighting and natural makeup. As well as directing my model to act very graceful and happy to express a very delightful atmosphere. Where as the evil side of fairy tales contained very dark lighting with dark makeup. This shoot was a studio shoot and showed the contrast between good v evil. 

Overall I feel that as my personal comment project furthered my photographs and ideas improved as I gained more of an understanding on how to show personal comment in my work. I feel that my most successful shoots were the domestic abuse shoots. This was the photographs I feel that were captured and framed very well and the dark and intense lighting allowed the reality of abuse show. I also think that my editing skills were shown in these photographs as I gained the most inspiration from other photographers and spent the most time on these.

This photograph is for my unit personal comment. The theme of this photograph is stereotypes and the particular stereotype I have shown in my photograph is 'youths'. I have shown this by the clothing of the 'hoodie' to symbolise the stereotype of teenagers and also by taking this photograph on location in front of a graffiti wall to  add to the stereotype of teenagers being rebellious. To edit this photograph I changed the curves and levels then added another layer to black out the models face. This was inspired by the photographer. The reason I blacked her face out was so that my personal comment of this stereotype isn't about her identity but in general. Next I created a different layer to bring out the colours of the graffiti on the wall by blurring and changing the opacity of the colours to make them look realistic and as if a stereotypical teenager has spray painted the wall which is stereotypically known as vandalising.

This also is for my unit of personal comment and shows the stereotype of teenagers through the clothing of a hoodie and the location of the graffiti wall. However the difference between this photograph and the one above is the angle as the one above is slightly low angle. Where as this one  is a eye line height which shows more of the location instead of the stereotype of a teenager. The reason I chose my model to not show her face and to turn her back to the camera is to hide her identity therefore focusing on the theme of stereotypes in this photograph. This photograph shows the negative view on teenagers which many people in society believe all teenagers are like. This photograph was edited with curves and levels to show the tones of the photograph as well as bringing out the bright colours through the paint tool. Then after this changing the opacity and blurring the colours to give them a spray tan effect.

This shoot was taken on location and was a successful shoot in my eyes through my edits. However if I would go back and add to this shoot I would of found different locations to make my photographs diverse and show different location that are stereotyped aiming at teenagers.

Connecting Essay 5

This photograph is for my project of personal comment and shows the theme of sterotypes. This particular stereotype is how teenager's are stereotyped to be 'gangsters' and very rude and disrespectful youths who don't have any respect for the general public. By the model wearing the costume of a 'hoodie' is a common clothing that society stereotype teenagers to wear. This gives off the impression that teenagers are very lazy people. The reason I took this photograph using the location back drop as a graffiti wall is because it also shows how youths/teenagers are stereotyped to vandalise private properties however other people can interoperate this as being creative an artistic. To edit this photograph I lowered the curves and levels to bring out all the dark tones to make this photograph look very harsh and graphic. I then for each colour on the wall outlined it with a brighter colour using paint to create a 3D look and to make the graffiti stand out more. To soften the colours I used gaussian blur and changed the opacity. I did this to make sure the colours weren't too sharp and had a spray paint effect to them. The model was positioned and directed to stand to the left of the photograph and to turn her back to the photograph. I decided to do this because it hides her identity and instead shows how stereotypes are shown. Also by having the model to left of the photograph allows all the graffiti to be seen and is a different way to show stereotypes instead of face on in the centre.

This photograph was created artistically by the unknown artist 'Banksy'  which shows the stereotypes of youths. This artistic picture that was painted was painted by a rough street on an abandoned wall. The reason for this is because it matches the stereotypes of teenagers as they are locations that they stereotypically 'hung around' at and where they are stereotyped to get into trouble. The photograph shows a young boy wearing a baggy top, baggy jeans and 'bling' with a snapback this is a common stereotype for teenagers.The facial expression that Banksy had painted was a very miserable one this infers stereotypically that teenagers are very negative people. Overall I feel that this photograph has been taken to show society the stereotypes for youths and how they aren't all right.




Both of these photographs connect because they both express the theme of stereotypes. As well as both focusing on the stereotype of youths which are shown in the same way. This is because they both show youths in a negative way. As well as showing a stereotypical appearance and attitude in both the photographs.

Connecting Essay 4

This photograph is part of my personal comment unit and was inspired by the photographer 'Judith Golden'. This photograph shows the theme of domestic abuse and shows what abuse does to women's appearance. This photograph shows a negative personal comment on domestic abuse and has been taken to show the consumers that this topic is very serious and should be dealt with better. The black eye, bruises and cuts are very graphic and hard hitting which allows the consumers to be shocked and disturbed by this photograph. I have used half the face of an actual case where a women has been abused to make this photograph very realistic and severe. By holding it in line with my face allows the consumer to see the major difference and how domestic abuse is something that deeply ruins a females confidence as her face is ruined. I edited this photograph by changing the adjustments to black and white  however still showing the colour's of the damaged and injured side of the face to emphasis the pain and show the sore redness. This technique is called colour selection and is something I learnt in unit 1. Also the black and white shows the negativity of this photograph and makes the side of the face in colour stand out even more being the main focus of the piece.

This photograph is a self portrait of 'Judith Golden' and shows her artistic skills in photography. Judith Golden's work is all about the history of women exploring self and society. This particular photograph is about makeup and how appearance is formed by the influence of the media. This photograph shows the summer change over of makeup as its very bright and colourful. The idea of using a model from a magazine and covering it over half of her face is a very inspirational idea and brings across the message very clear. This is how many people in society copy the media because they don't have their own identity. This photograph has a bright purple background that stands outs and is very appealing colour towards her target consumers of females.

Overall both of these photographs have a connection as they both share the idea of using another identity for half of the face to bring across their messages. They both have separate messages however use the same style to portray these. They are both also aimed at the target audience of females and both show issues that females loose huge confidence by. However my photograph is more of a serious issue all though both issues leave a women with low confidence.

Connecting Essay 3

This photograph was taken for my unit 'Personal Comment' this is because it shows the personal comment of nature. The idea of editing these photographs in a photo joiner is because it allows the consumers to identify the two sides of nature. The left being the beauty of nature through the bright pinks and fresh green's in contrast with the wilted and dead nature with the duel lifeless colours. The photo joiner format creates this photograph to show the personal comment of nature in a more exciting and different way. It also combines both sides together without a direct line in the middle so that the consumers have to figure out how nature relates to persona comment. This photograph was a long process and in order to get each photograph the same size I had to change each image size then either change the hue and saturation for the right side and brighten the left side of the photograph using levels and curves. After this had been done I then dragged each individual photograph into its place to form a whole photograph using individual ones. This photograph looks three dimensional this is because I had taken each individual photograph from the one side to the other creating a semi circle. This made this photograph look very realistic.

This photograph was taken and edited by the photographer 'David Hockney' and is presented in a photo joiner. This photograph contains very neutral colours and has the main focus of nature as the two trees are very close up that stand out from the background. This photograph also shows the formal element of depth as parallel convergence is used to show the length of the street. Further more this photograph has been very well constructed as you can see the whole photograph as well as each individual photograph. David Hockney was best known for his collages known as photo joiner and this is one that he has created brilliantly as the photographs are very sharp in quality.

Both of these photographs connect because they both have been presented in the technique of photo joiner. Also both photo joiners are very creative and show clearly each individual photograph put together to make a stunning image. They both also use nature in the photographs that stand out by the vibrant colours and three dimensional effect. This is because both photographs have been taken from the side and round to make the photograph look real.

Connecting Essay 2

This photograph was inspired by Justin Grant's photography as he has a section on fitness which was the theme of my studio shoot. I chose the white background because of the colour of the models hair which stands out on the white background. This photograph shows movement as I caught her in mid hair swoop which was the aim of this photograph. This represents how keeping fit and healthy can make you feel happy about yourself. The movement of her hair symbolises being free from everything negative about your life. This photograph was captured with the model positioned to the right of the photograph this is because it allowed the hair to flick into the centre being the main focus. The costume I chose was a blue sport crop top, black sport shorts with a matching blue sweat band this was chosen as the theme of my shoot was fitness and this is the correct clothing to show in my photograph what my personal comment was.


This photograph was taken by the photographer 'Justin Grant' as part of his fitness portfolio. This photograph is to excite the consumers and encourage them to become motivated. The aim of this photograph is to express happiness and inspire many people to become fit. This photograph's model was positioned to the centre and shows movement in photography. The framing of this photograph has no excess space as its been tightly framed to create an appealing photograph due to the closeness of the photograph. This photograph has been edited to maximise the sharpness of her sweat and shine on her body this is what makes the model stand out. Also the bright luminous colours complement each other and the grey background which isn't a common back drop to have for fitness. However this is what makes this photograph very unique. The still movement of this photograph is what makes it different and show a photograph coming alive.

The connection between these two photographs are that they both are photographs based on the theme of fitness. They also both show excitement in keeping fit and motivated. The actual models have both been captured in still movement with their hair flicked in the air. This shows the same idea in both photographs all though the positioning of their bodies are different. They also have the similar sport outfits which contain bright colours that stand out from the back drops. Overall they both connect very well and have the same strengths to form good photographs.

Connecting Essay 1

This photograph was part of my domestic abuse shoot for my personal comment unit. The idea of this photograph was to show how domestic abuse doesn't just affect a women mentally but physically as well. I have shown the mental side to domestic abuse by positioning my model to have her hand over her face this is to represent how she is hiding herself from reality as the abuse she has gone through has affected her confidence hugely. Also by having a shadow of black covering her eyes suggest that her life is very dark and negative. I began the editing by adjusting the curves and levels. The physical abuse is represented with the cuts and bruises that I have edited on. I done this by using the burn tool to create the bruises and also changing the opacity of the colour purple to have a hint of purple in the bruise this made it more realistic. I also used the burn tool to create a swollen lip and black eyes this made her face look more rough and by again blurring and changing the opacity of the colour red formed a severe look to the cuts. This editing stage took me a long time this was to make sure that the bruises and cuts looked very real and accurate to how women look like in real life. This is a very disturbing topic however by applying the disturbing side to domestic abuse allows people to see why domestic abuse needs to be helped to stop. I chose a black background because the lighting I used for this photograph was the spot light. I used this because it only shone over my models arms and a section of her face creating the rest of the photograph to be pitch black surrounding her. This conveys how she has no escape from the negativity in her life. In the end stage of my editing I changed the hue and saturation to a hint of red this is because red has the conation of blood and danger therefore suiting my topic very well. The costume of my model was a black top this was very important as I needed it to camouflage in with the black background to make sure that only the damage and her face and hair stand out.

This photograph also shows domestic abuse in photography. This photograph was used as part of a campaign to raise awareness for women who are suffering with domestic abuse. Vasil Germanov's idea was to place this photograph and a series of photographs in a Bulgarian fashion/beauty magazine to see if the public recognise this as abuse or not realise the photograph as they are too indulged in the beauty models in the magazine.The photographer has specifically chosen the model to wear a red dress as women stereotypically are known as a sexual figure and red has the conations of blood, death and danger. The model has been put in a fashionable dress with all her makeup and hair professionally done and to contrast this is a black swollen eye. The abused swollen eye is very graphic and has been applied by hand and edited to show how women are disfigured by their brutal injuries. The photograph has been edited very sharp and there is a clear difference between the beauty and the abuse. This photograph glamorises violence and the message that this photograph is saying is that domestic abuse ruins a women s beauty and self confidence of her appearance. Beauty is an important thing for many women and once its ruined they become very distressed. This photograph contains no shadows and this makes the photograph look very professional as the main focus is on the severe pain from the abuse. The model has been edited to be very pale which allows her skin to stand out from the black background this makes her look very cold and vulnerable through the weakness her skin portrays. The framing of this photograph is very good as it shows her chest upwards this was a good decision to make because then her face is shown very close up. If the photograph was a full body shot it would take the affect away from her swollen eye, hair and makeup.

These two photographs connect because they both express the same message of domestic abuse. This message is that domestic abuse ruins a women s beauty and that it affects a women both mentally and physically. Both of these photographs use a black background and have used the colour red as a conation of death,blood and danger which all are possibilities in domestic abuse. Both photographs are very graphic and deep which could disturb many consumers. However both photographs show the reality of abuse and raise awareness for people who forgot about how awful domestic abuse is. Furthermore both photographs are taken from chest upwards this is because it doesn't show any distractions to the photograph and allows the brutal injuries to be the main focus. Overall I feel that these two photographs connect very well and even though the models have been captured in different positions the message behind them and the colours both photographs use show a huge connection between them.

I chose the photographer Andrew Stawicki because he's work was of the theme of poverty and this is one of my topics that I have explored in my project of personal comment. He also used the print technique of black and white and captured several close up shots which are photographs that will inspire me.

 This photograph shows two different cultures coming together as one.This is shown through the close up photograph of both a black male and white female. The black and white editing effect brings out the different tones in both their faces and this allows us as the consumers to see their individual detail for example their eye wrinkles, eye brows and pupils. The closeness of this photograph is very affective because it shows the weakness in their eyes which relates to the theme of poverty because it shows how they have no power in society to gain some wealth.

This photograph also shows the personal comment of poverty through someones eye. This photograph is again a close up and allows us as the consumers to see the pain in their eye because of their life struggles.The close up also allows us as the consumers to see the huge amount of detail in this person's face as from this photograph the wrinkles around their eye and the actual eye is very crystallised and clear to see. I really like this photograph because it has been edited in black and white to show the negative side of this persons life.

 This photograph is of a innocent child with tears down his face. This photograph makes the audience sympathise and feel this child's pain through the close up of the photograph. By having the photograph in black and white makes this photograph look even sadder. Also this photograph contains the technique of depth of field as the focus is on the child and then children in the background are blurred. I really like how the child was taken from the side to show a different angle of his face and how the tear is taken and edited to be very clear and recognisable.

This photograph shows the happiness of people in poverty as by the expressions on their faces show them smiling and enjoying the life they have. I really like how this photograph has been taken to cover the whole space and shows a lot going on in the photograph. The black and white effect has been edited with hue and saturation do bring a natural colour into the photograph and make it look vintage.



This photographer has influenced me with his technical skills of close up photographs and how to take close ups using different angles. This will help with my work in all my topics to show as much detail as possible and to focus on a close up instead of always taking a full photograph of everything happening in the photograph.

Overall the photography that this photographer produces is very high quality and professional and this is shown through the skills he has used. The message and emotions he is showing in his photography are shown very clearly and connect straight away with the audience.

Justin Grant is a fitness photographer and the reason why I chose him is because this topic fits in very well with my project of personal comment. This is because I am interested in fitness and by photographing it allows my knowledge to show. His work show different fitness exercises and running techniques in motion and shows the personal comment of keeping fit and healthy.

 This photograph is of a girl in her fitness clothes half jumping in the air. This position allows us as an audience to see her muscle in full detail this is shown through different tones and as been edited to look very glossy. The shadowed black background complements are red hair and outfit and makes this photograph show the sweat during her exercise. I really like how this photograph has been captured in motion with her hair flicking out this is because it looks very interesting to look at and different to running motion photographs.

This photograph is of a model running with her exercising clothing on that stands out from the metal walls. This photograph has been edited a lot to give a shine to her body and to show that there is no limits to where you run. I really like how the photograph has caught her running in a perfect technique which makes her figure stand out and makes a good picture. The personal comment of fitness is shown through her healthy body and exercising that is shown in the photograph. I really like the deep colours and how there is no shadows. However I would of liked to see a splash of colour in her clothing to make her stand out even more and liven the photograph up.

This photograph also shows the personal comment of fitness and is photographing a male hand standing against a wall. This position allows his abs to be shown very well and therefore shows the message of if you work hard your body will become very healthy. This photograph has been edited in black and white to make his muscles stand out and to give a different affect to the photograph. I really like the low angle that this photograph was taken from as it allows us as the audience to see his hands all the way to his feet from his point of view as well.

Lastly this photograph also shows the personal comment of fitness and shows a male runner in motion of running. The intensity that his body is showing and his face shows that he has just started a sprint. This photograph again allows us as an audience to see his muscles through the light and dark tones which make this photograph look 3D and real to look at. I really like how the photograph was taken to show the depth of the location and how the runner has been taken up close to show that he is the main focus of this photograph.



Justin Grant work has influenced me because he has shown the use of the three elements of movement, tone and depth in fitness photography which will help me when I'm taking my photographs of fitness. He has also shown how to make a photograph captivating without putting any major colours in to brighten up the photograph instead allowing the tones to show the intensity of the photographs.

Overall I feel that his photographs will inspire me to photograph my own and I will use them as a template to photograph mine however adjusting different things to make mine my own. I also like how he has used both females and males to show fitness as its something that both genders take part in to keep a healthy lifestyle and body.

I chose this photographer because it shows fairy tales in a happy and sinister way. This will fit well in my project of personal comment because it shows how fairy tales have to different sides to it. It also shows the basic formal elements in them which I known very well and can inspire me with my own work.

This photograph is part of the Disney celebrity shoot taken by Annie Leb. I really like the yellow sun shining through and causes the trees to show shape through silhouette. I also like the tones of the location as there is lightness and darkness coming through together to show the sinister side of fairy-tale and the bright cheerful side. Furthermore I really like how the photographer has positioned the princess as she is surrounded by the trees and has sparkles that have been edited to make her the main focus. The yellows and greens create a warm atmosphere and make this photograph look magical.

This photograph shows personal comment and is also part of the Disney celebrity shoot. Instead this photograph shows the princess of Cinderella and her running away from the castle. The deep blue colour of her dress stands out and is the main focus of this photograph. However the stairs leading up to the castle are very dark and gloomy to show the haunting side of fairy tales. I especially like  how the photographer has taken the female model running in motion to show a realism in this photograph even though its just a story.

This photograph only shows one side to a fairy tale which is very dark and sinister. The evil queen is standing very strong and dominant with an angry expression. This is complemented with the dark lighting and intense colours which make her red cape stand out. Conations of red are evil, blood and violence which this queen portrays. I especially like how the flames are coming upwards by the mirror to continue this interpretation and to show fairy tales do have danger apon them.

This photograph is also part of the Disney celebrity shoot and shows the Disney characters of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. The dark background and dark green tree's show a dark and negative side to fairy tales however the glitter sparkling show the good and positive side to them. I like how the male model playing Peter Pan is in bright green which stands out from the dark location and makes him the main focus. I also like how there is font in this photograph to share the message it is telling. The quote is 'Where you never grow up' this is from the film and is something that its audience will understand straight away.

This photographer will influence be through her lighting of dark and light and using quotes in her work to share her message. I will use both of these editing skills to produce my work to be professional. I also like how she has stuck with a theme which she focuses on I will take this on board and not try to do too many separate topics and focus on several ones I am most interested in.

Overall I really like her work and how it shows the contrast of good and bad in Disney fairy tales. Her work show personal comment which is something I am showing in my work therefore her work will inspire me when I'm photographing mine.

I chose the photographer 'Vasil Germanov' to research and look into her work because she captured photographs of domestic abuse. This was one of my first ideas to shoot and allowed me to use different techniques in the editing process. Her work was also part of a campaign which made her photographs have a message and more interesting to consume.

 

 This photograph is showing domestic abuse through the make-up of a black swollen eye. This has been applied very well as it looks very realistic. The idea of this photograph is to show how domestic abuse damages a females beauty. This is because this photograph has been captured with all her makeup and hair done nicely to show the contrast of how awful the after pain is of domestic abuse. I like how the background is black to make the white font and the swollen eye stand out from the dark background. The red dress has also been chosen as red has conations of blood and danger which this topic involves.

 This photograph also shows domestic abuse and is part of the campaign to stop domestic abuse. This photograph has a dark black background to illustrate the dark and haunting side of this topic. The bruised cut lip demonstrates the pain that female's go through when they are being abused. I really like how the photographer has taken this photograph with the model to the right hand side of the photograph to show herself trying to hide from the pain. The weak expression in her eyes and face also shows the struggle that female's go through.

This photograph shows domestic abuse and is also part of the campaign against female abuse, These photographs have been placed in a beauty magazine to see if people recognise it or just except it. The cut on her nosed represents domestic abuse and looks very real and deep to show how much these females get hurt physically as well as mentally. The background being black shows no shadows and puts the focus on the domestic cuts from the abuse.

This photograph is a close up of a female model. The background being white makes her dark makeup stand out very well. I really like how her lips are the main focus and by wearing black lipstick as conations of dark, negative and haunting which shows domestic abuse in beauty. Her face is flawless and the lighting is very fresh and clear to allow her beauty to naturally shine. I especially like how everything is blurred other than her face to keep her face the main focus.





This photographer will influence me because of how real the swollen cuts and bruises are therefore in my work I will learn to edit them in to produce the same affect that these photographs show. Also the close up is very captivating and I will capture this but in my own way.

Overall I really like Vasil Germanov's photography because of the theme relating to my work very well. Also because of the editing of the cuts, bruises and makeup will help me with my work to bring a strong message that these photographs show.

Work Diary 7

This photograph was taken out on location and is for my project of personal comment. The photograph represents personal comment because it shows the beauty of nature. This has been shown through the fresh and bright purple's and greens. The photograph also shows depth of field from where the two flowers at the front are fully focused and then the background is blurred. This is very affective as it creates the stunning flowers in focus to show its beauty. I really like how this photograph is very clear and how it was taken when the sun was shining directly on the flowers to give it a warming and summer feel to its. The sun also brings out the different tones of nature and makes the photograph more captivating to look at. The editing of levels and curves has increased the sharpness of this photograph and made it look professional. However the angle of the photograph was slightly slanted to the left there fore I used the ruler tool to even it up as much as possible. This is one of my favourite photographs I have taken so far.





This photograph is also a location shot for my project of personal comment. This photograph represents personal comment of how nature is beautiful as well as the flower shaped as a heart to show how nature should be loved and not destroyed. The technique I used for this photograph was selective colour this was to bring out the pastel pinks and yellow colours centred around the soft white petals. This photograph shows nature to be very graceful and pretty through the delicateness of the flowers. This photograph was taken very well as the flowers are framed and positioned in the centre with the black and white background behind it to give it a vintage effect. The low angle shot allows the person viewing this photograph to see the flowers from its petals all the way through to the centre where the colour stands out.

If I would go and add to this location shoot I would of taken more photographs of different flowers and would of taken flowers with the background of the sky in to show the contrast of nature.

Work Diary 6

This studio photograph has been taken for my project of personal comment. This photograph shows this as it represents how crime is increasing in our country. Also how crime has become very complex and many people in society who commit a crime are very clever at not getting found out. This photograph was edited in black and white to show the negativity and danger of crime. Also to show the stereotype of the black and white stripes which is a stereotypical outfit for prison outfits. These stripes represent the outcome of crime. The sign has been designed and used to make sure the consumers viewing this photograph understand that this photograph's theme is crime as its a stereotypical word that is used for this theme. I directed Demi who I have taken this photograph of to keep a serious and emotionless face this again is showing the representation of crime and how photographs in the real world are taken when people in society go to prison.

This studio photograph has also been taken for my project of personal comment and has been taken to represent the actions of crime. This is through the gun aiming directly at the camera. I have edited this to blur out Demi's body and face so that the main focus is on the gun. This creates this photograph to be harsh and show threat through the gun being aimed forward as if its aiming at who ever is looking at this photograph. The back drop I chose was black this is so that the stereotypical black and white stripes are shown very clear and stand out. The gun has been positioned to almost cover up Demi's face this is to cover her identity and show that anyone is capable of committing a crime.

If I would go back and add to this studio shoot I would of taken more photographs to have more to chose from and would of taken more photographs using the gun as a prop.

Work Diary 5

This photography studio shoot was for my project personal comment. This photograph is showing domestic abuse through the dark and sinister back drop. The bruises and black eyes have been edited from the burn and dodge tool this makes the photograph realistic and will create the viewer to sympathise with this serious theme of domestic abuse. The sign that I made has the quote 'He says it won't happen again' this is a very deep quote and brings out the thoughts that she is thinking but without saying them because in real life the women that get abused are to scared to escape and tell people what they are going through. I directed my model 'Lauren' do stand really weak and have a serious expression on her face this is to show no emotion and let the words show the message. I feel that this photograph is very affective and is framed very well making sure that darkness of the black back drop surrounds her. All these points above make this photograph very negative.

This photograph is also for my project personal comment and shows the use of shadows to represent domestic abuse. The action on the left is representing the abuse and what causes the pain, bruises and cuts. I positioned the arm to show as much strength and rage through clenching her fist and arm. The right side of the photograph shows the shadowing of fear and the action to attempt to stop herself from being abused .The actual shadow has been taken to show weakness through the vulnerability of the action. I chose the white back drop because it has allowed the black shadows to be seen better and stand out.

If I would go back and add to this domestic abuse should I would of taken photographs with written messages on her hands and photographs where she is hiding herself more. However I can photograph these ideas in another shoot.

Work diary - shoot 4

This photograph is for my project personal comment and is the personal comment of the contrast of the healthy and beauty of nature to the dying, wilted nature. This has been presented through a photo joiner this was to show creativity in my work. I chose to edit the beauty side of nature with brightness and the dying nature changing the hue and saturation to get a off colour to show oldness. Each individual photograph has been sized the same to make this photo joiner professional. To improve this photograph I would of taken more photographs of the beauty side of nature as there was more photograph for the other side of nature leaving a different ratio when looking at this photograph.

If I would go out and add to this location shoot I would search for more photographs to take as the weather was raining therefore brighter and sunnier weather will be easier for me to capture more photographs.

Work diary- shoot 3

This photograph is for my project of personal comment and shows the personal comment of fashion. This photograph shows the change from the 80's to the 90's. This photograph is part of another 3 shoots and each of them shoots shows each era of fashion. I like how bright this photograph is edited and also the position of the model. This stance she is standing in makes the 90's style stand out even more as the outfit is falling perfectly. This photograph was taken to show the whole of her body and to make sure the consumer knows that the style of this shoot is the 90's. To improve this photograph I would remove the marks on the white backdrop to make this photograph more professional

This photograph is for my project of personal comment and was taken in the studio. This photograph again shows the transformation and change from each era of fashion. This style is for the 90's and has been presented in the technique of repetition. This makes the photograph more appealing to look at. This photograph has been edited using the normal curves and levels to adjust the brightness but as well as converting two of the photographs to black and white. This makes this photograph unique and a different way to present the fashion of the 90's. I really like  the position that Demi is standing in which is either going inwards or outwards this makes the photograph look interesting and shows my creative side.








If I would go back and improve this shoot I would take more photographs standing up as I'm limited of choice to edit these however the sitting down photographs I have a range of photographs to pick and edit.

Work diary- shoot 2

This photograph is part of my personal comment project as it represents homeless people who are in poverty. The reason I chose to use two of the photographs in the background and lowered the opacity is to show my personal comment of how people in poverty on the streets are invisible and society need to realise this. I also chose to convert this photograph to black and white because this fits the duel and sad life that people in poverty live in because they don't have any chances in life to escape and build a better life. To improve this photograph I could of changed the thin scarf wrapped around to a plain one because this shows poverty to a deeper level instead of showing style. This is the reason I blacked out the scarf at the front. Overall I feel this photograph fits in well with my personal comment project.

This photograph was also taken in the studio and represents poverty and homeless people. I really like the position Beth has been photographed in as it shows the vulnerability and weakness as she is looking downwards. This could represent her giving up in life. I chose to keep the colours in this photograph this is because the back drop of the grey background stands out better with this photograph in colour. To improve this photograph I could of taken this photograph not as close up to show her arms wrapped around her to emphasis coldness.

If I could go back and improve this studio shoot I would choose a different lighting and would take more photographs as this was my first shoot and didn't go to plan as I wanted it to be.

Work diary- shoot 1

This photograph I took was for my personal comment project showing my view on domestic violence. I especially like the high angle I took this photograph at because it shows darkness around her eyes to show that she has lost her identity through the violent incidents she has had to suffer with. To take this photograph I used the spot light to create a sinister look to the photograph this has allowed the light to make her injuries stand out and this is what makes this photograph disturbing to look at. To edit this photograph I lowered the hue and saturation and used both the burn tool and changing the opacity and Gaussian blur to add hints of colour into the bruises. This shows the physical pain she has to deal with but can also be conveyed as herself self harming herself because of the distress of getting abused.

My second photograph I'm going to evaluate is the photograph I took in the studio. This photograph represents domestic abuse and the fear women have when the men become very intimidating. I like the way I took this photograph where Demi representing the women is close up and Josh representing the man is further in the background to show threat and control over the women. Where as Demi has more light shone on her to emphasis her facial expression of sadness and her bruises that have scarred her for life even if they are going to heal. This photograph was edited using the normal curves and levels but again lowering the hue and saturation and using the burn and dodge tool to get the different dark and light tones.

If I could go back and improve this studio shoot I would focus more on the photographs with both Josh and Demi as I only took a few where as the individual ones of Demi I had a lot of. Also I would of taken more photograph because my contact sheet wasn't as long as I wanted it to be to give me more options to edit with.

Photographer 1

I picked 'Banksy' because he is a UK graffiti artist who remains unknown. His work expressed serious and important incidents that society judged or needed to be told about. His graffiti art that was focusing on stereotypes I am especially inspired by as it relates to my personal comment project and is something I'm going to create in my own way.

This photograph shows a women dressed in a maids outfit cleaning with her broom behind her. This shows the stereotypical women who is the house wife who does the cooking and cleaning for the male gender. This photograph has meaning to show society that this isn't always the case and how society can sometimes be brain washed to believe this. The graffiti has been created amazingly and shows personal comment of stereotypes very well in my eyes. This photograph has been presented on a wall for society to walk past and decided the message they want to gain from it. Therefore mine is that Banksy has specifically created this to show how this is a main stereotype in society and by the women staring at you when you view the photograph shows the anger she feels about being stereotyped as this.

This photograph is showing the stereotype of African American's and stereotyping there pop culture through there appearance. This is done by the costume of baggy top and chunky bling as well as the facial expression of having a strong attitude. By designing this stereotype creating a child causes this art to be shocking towards society. It also ruins the vulnerability of children and makes the viewers deeply think about the meaning behind this photograph and the choices he has made.

The stereotype is showing how teenagers are always portrayed to be wearing the iconic hoodie and track suit bottoms. Banksy as created this by not showing the teenagers face this shows that the message behind this piece of art is that teenagers who wear these clothes could be a boy or girl, horrible or loving everyone is different and the way society stereotype teenagers who wear these clothing to be rebellious children is wrong. The way this photograph has been created by a rough location on a wall makes this stereotype even more realistic.

This photograph is showing the stereotype of gender as its showing that all women are maids and are perfect house wife's who cook, clean and look after the children. Also that the stereotype for men are that the male gender are the only ones who go into army. However this piece of art is showing the young women having control over the strong man. This is done to confuse society and show that something one person expresses most people will agree and believe as well. This piece of art has been created very well and I really like how the colours match the stereotypes as pink is stereotypically a girls colour.








Banksy's work will influence me with my own project which is personal comment because the key features of the stereotypes he has used I will create in my own way. The way he has presented them in different locations will help with my understanding of each stereotype.

Overall I take a huge interest in Banksy's work and the messages he brings across involving stereotypes will help me with my own project. The tones colours and the location he has presented them in are my favourite part of his designing. Lastly as Bansky is an unknown graffiti artist makes these photograph even more adventurous and fascinating to read and create your own meaning.
